What has happened to the McCann family proves the case for rat roofing.
Michael McCann caught 19 rats within 24 hours of getting home from holiday. Eventually he and his family had to move out of their home in Belfast for safety reasons, while his landlord brought in pest controllers to deal with the problem.
Here at SUPERPROOFTM we hope the main pest control solution selected was one we would advocate – rat proofing.
Rat infestation
It is quite common for pest control problems to build up through rodent infestations, either rats or mice, while householders go away on holiday.
In this case, the family believes the fact that their pet cat was in a cattery and not guarding the rented house, scaring off the rats, was probably a factor.
That may be the case. A quiet house, with a ready food supply can also result in rats or mice, already present in the fabric of the building, accelerating their colonisation of the space.
Also, the family’s trip away may have coincided with activity nearby, such as construction work on another property, which disrupted a rat or mouse population, forcing them to find somewhere else to live.
And what better than a nice quite house, with a food supply laid on.
Whatever the circumstances, the only real pest control solution is to rodent proofing. This protects the human living space within a building from the inside out.
By blocking all potential entry points, which could be tiny holes or cracks in the building fabric, mice or rats cannot get in to reach the food they are looking for.
Without access to food, they have to go elsewhere to live – there will be plenty of properties that are not rat proofed or mouse proofed. That leaves the householders in peace with no rodent infestation problems.
Rat proofing works
Our How does SUPERPROOFTM work? animation shows how this process works. We work with a lot of private landlords and social landlords to rodent proof large numbers of properties in one go.
Over in Belfast, responding to the McCann’s rat infestation crisis, which must have been very unpleasant, the city council described an “on-going rat problem”.
Carry out rat proofing at the family home and the problem will be stopped in its tracks.
