Veganuary is drawing to an end with more than 160,000 people in the UK having pledged to go vegan for January.
There may be meat, fish and dairy eaters who still scoff at veganism. But many others who have a growing awareness of, and respect for, the principled stand vegans take.
And the huge rise in the number of people becoming vegan, and celebrity chefs creating vegan dishes, and restaurants offering vegan food, cannot be ignored.
So, why, we hear you say, is SUPERPROOF taking an interest in Veganuary and veganism?
Well, we’re also impressed with the fact that vegans live by their values. So, we decided to look to see if we have values in common.
The answer turned out to be yes. Here are five ways veganism and SUPERPROOF see eye-to-eye.
1. No to animal cruelty and exploitation
Vegans are strongly against animal cruelty and do not agree with eating or wearing animal-based products. All animals, like humans are sentient beings. They have feelings and feel pain. This is why, says Karen Johnson, in her Elated Vegan blog, “vegans strive to become ethical and passionate.”
Natural mouse control
SUPERPROOF is a value-driven company as well. We offer a natural mouse control service, through mouse proofing. We do not use mouse traps and mouse poisons.
There are two reasons: they do not work, and they injure and kill mice for no reason. House mice have evolved to live with humans, and to survive despite our attempts to eradicate them with mice traps and mouse bait.
SUPERPROOF mouse proofing works by preventing mice from getting into your living space to get food by blocking every potential point of entry. To survive, they must then go elsewhere to live.
2. Respect for life
The Vegan Society says: “We believe all animals have a right to life and freedom and deserve to be valued as individuals.”
It also supports environmental sustainability.
Respecting mouse behaviour
Here at SUPERPROOF we also have a fundamental respect for the house mouse as a wild animal. Our mouse proofing service works because, based on many years of observation, we understand mouse behaviour.
Using that understanding, we have developed strategies for preventing mice from entering the living space of our human customers. We are not saying mice do not have a right to live – we are not trying to destroy them. We are just saying they cannot live in a particular space, a space we have mouse proofed.
SUPERPROOF is also wildlife-friendly as well. Because we do not use poisons, there is no risk that birds of prey and other animals – foxes, and badgers, for example – can eat mice that have ingested poison, and become ill, or even die, themselves. Therefore, SUPERPROOF is a sustainable mouse control service.
3. Positive approach
The Vegan Society takes a positive view of a vegan way of life. It says: “With energy and enthusiasm, we shout from the rooftops everything there is to love about vegan diets and lifestyles.”
Challenging mouse control misconceptions
Like the Vegan Society, we are very confident that mouse proofing is the way forward. You could say we are evangelical about it.
We are constantly seeking to challenge misconceptions about mouse control. Many people think first to buy some mouse traps and mouse poison to remove mice, and not many other solutions afterwards.
But, we know we have right on our side. We know our humane mouse control works. It is why we offer a certified guarantee that the mice will be gone for at least year.
SUPERPROOF is the next big thing in mouse control. Mice have become resistant to poison, and learn to avoid poison – they are called super mice. So, mouse proofing is the only way to stop mice getting in. You can shout that from the roof tops as well!
4. Animals are not the enemy
Vegan campaigner Dr Stanley Sapon says animals were not put on earth for humans to use. Neither are animals “the enemy”.
He says: “As vegans, we strive to be thoughtful, aware and concerned about the impact of our choices, our actions and our decisions.”
Humane mouse control
SUPERPROOF does not seek to harm mice either. Mouse proofing merely prevents them from getting in to places we, as humans, want to control. There are lots of good reasons: we want to protect foodstuffs; we have small children, and want to protect them from disease; we want to protect the fabric of our home; we might have a mouse phobia.
On this last point, there will be plenty of vegans who are mouse phobic. Opinions may vary within veganism, but if you just cannot live with mice and are a vegan, asking SUPERPROOF to mouse proof your home seems to us to be an ethical option.
5. Lead the way
Vegans are definitely leading the way. The Vegan Society states in its values that it is a principled organisation that campaigns for the beliefs it holds. Vegans have also had to take a good amount of stick in the past from people who think their stance on food and animal products is a little extreme.
Pioneering mouse protection
SUPERPROOF also knows what it is like to be out on the limb. We are pioneers in the development of mouse proofing. Some other in the mouse control industry poo-poo the idea that you can block every single possible way a mouse can get into a property.
Well, sorry, but we are proving those naysayers wrong, and we’re doing it every day. We have thousands of happy mice-free customers who will testify that SUPERPROOF mouse proofing works.
Our natural mouse control is supported by technology. We work with our clients to ensure they go mice-free.
Mouse proofing – the humane and ethical choice
So, there you have it. Vegans share some values with SUPERPROOF and our customers. We must be honest here, we are not a vegan company. Most of our customers are not vegan.
But those that are can, we believe, rest easy in their beds, in their mice-free bedrooms. That has got to be a good thing.
