New mum Aimee O’Malley had two reasons to be shocked and worried when she and her husband Steven found mice in their London flat.
Firstly, they had a five-week-old son, and were worried about him picking up potentially serious infections. Secondly, Aimee is mouse phobic after a traumatic incident when she was, herself, a young child.
They took their concerns to the owner of their rented ground floor flat in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, who agreed that SUPERPROOF, should mouse proof the property.

Out in the cold: Aimee and Steven O’Malley with their son, Cecil. Having mice in the home made the new parents worried and upset about bringing up baby
Our professional mouse proofing team quickly carried out the work, preventing mice from getting into the couple’s living space, and protecting baby Cecil and Aimee from further mouse trouble.
Aimee says: “It was a great relief to be able to call on SUPERPROOF’s service, which was impressive. It meant we could deal with the issue quickly and permanently. Also, the certified guarantee given helped us convince the property owners that this was the best solution.
“None of the alternatives, in my view, would have come close as a solution, especially given our concern to protect Cecil, and my intense dislike of rodents.”
Permanent mouse removal needed
Aimee and Steven, both American, have lived and worked in London for nearly five years, Aimee as a business coach for one of the world’s biggest digital technology companies.
She first spotted a mouse running across the floor as she was nursing Cecil on the couch. Her husband trapped it in a cardboard box and got rid of it.
A search of the flat revealed mouse faeces. There was probably more than one mouse. Both wanted a permanent solution to remove mice still be in their home, and stop more mice getting in.
Not least because they wanted to protect their baby boy. Mice defecate and urinate everywhere. They carry bacteria and viruses that can cause potentially fatal disease and illness.
But Aimee had another powerful reason to want to get rid of the mice as quickly as possible. She traces her fear of rodents to a rat being found in the family home when she was a girl.
Childhood fear of rodents
Aimee, aged 31, explains: “My parents used a sticky trap to catch the rat, which died. The experience made me shriek with fear, and ever since then I have been rodent phobic.
“That’s why I didn’t want to try using traps in our home now, and I certainly didn’t want mouse poison in the flat because I didn’t want anything like that near my new-born baby.”
After finding SUPERPROOF online and talking to the rental company – which only suggested putting down mouse traps or poison – Aimee and Steven contacted the property owners, who live in Australia.
Aimee says: “The property company admitted mice were a big problem in London, and the only option was mouse traps or poison. We’d found SUPERPROOF so realised that wasn’t the case.
“We explained to the owners that SUPERPROOF was guaranteed, and having it done would help with renting to future tenants, and even with resale value. They got the point and agreed to pay 60% of the cost.”
Calling in SUPERPROOF to mouse proof the living space in your home prevents mice from reaching the food they need. To survive, they need to move elsewhere. We issue a certified guarantee that the mice will be gone for at least 6 months.
Aimee can now continue with her maternity leave, caring for Cecil, with complete peace of mind. No more mice. No more risk to her baby’s health. And no more fear of mice in the home for her.
