It’s one of the most common questions we get asked. How can I get rid of mice in my house? And it’s usually accompanied by a clear sense of desperation. That’s because in most cases, our customers have tried most DIY mouse control solutions already, none of which have worked.
Mice pest control can take you in all sorts of directions. There are many products on the market that claim to help you get rid of mice. Almost all of them don’t work, or certainly don’t have a long term effect.
Because it’s something that has been done for many years, the most common mouse pest solution is to reach for rodent poison, or rodenticide, as it’s also called.
Mouse psychology
Here at SUPERPROOFTM, we think this is as much a psychological reaction as much as a pest control one. When people experience mice problems and especially serious mice infestations, the first response is often: how do I kill these mice! I just want to be rid of them!
For hundreds of years, when it has come to pest problems, the response has been to kill them. Maybe in the past, when humans were more vulnerable to diseases carried by pests, it was a sensible approach: kill or be killed!
Now, the tables have turned. Rodent pest control is more about nuisance, and a sense of not wanting our homes invaded by mice and rats, than an imminent threat to life and limb, though they do still carry diseases and germs.
In the 21st Century, the best answer to the question – how can I get rid of mice in my house – demands a bit more sophistication, based on scientific advances, and delivering a solution that actually works.
Baiting failure
That is because, as most of our customers have found, using poisons or mouse traps to try to control mice just does not work. Mice are smart. They learn to avoid eating the bait. They also steer clear of traps. They also breed more quickly than the bait can kill.
Mice are also becoming increasingly resistant to rodenticide. So, some mice see the mouse poison you might put down as excellent food. Householders are also increasingly aware of other downsides to rodenticides, notably the threat to wildlife.
So what is the answer to that question – How can I get rid of mouse in my house – the clear response is: make your house the sort of place a mouse does not want to live.
Mice choose to develop a permanent and expanding home inside your property, whether it be a house, flat or business premises, because it provides three things: shelter, warmth and food.
Mice find the first two in the cavities inside the walls of your property. They find the third essential, food, by venturing out through the many holes and cracks that lead into your human living space at night and going for a good forage.
Protect human space
Before you suggest it, the answer is not to sweep up all your cereal flakes every night. It is to block all the holes and cracks, all the potential entranceways into your home, so it is protected from the inside out.
This is called mouse proofing. Or Superproofing as we call it, because our mouse proofing system is the most advanced, most effective way to get rid of mice in the UK.
With all the holes blocked, the mice cannot reach their food supply. Unless they want to go on a sudden and catastrophic diet, they need to move on, which is exactly what they do.
They leave your house, to look for another one where the owners were not clever enough to Superproof their living space. So, in answer to the question: how can I get rid of mice in my house (and prevent them from coming back), we say:
SUPERPROOFTM it!
