A team of mouse proofers from SUPERPROOFTM have been praised by a social landlord and its tenants for curing a serious mouse infestation in a block of 24 flats.
Arhag Housing Association called in SUPERPROOFTM to tackle a mouse control problem which had been troubling tenants in Silvester House, West London, over a number of years.
No bait or traps
Despite repeated attempts by Arhag to use conventional baiting and trapping pest control methods to resolve the problem, the mice were entrenched and could not be budged.
In a two-week programme of mouse proofing, SUPERPROOFTM identified the root cause of the mouse control problem and put in long-term measures to prevent mice from getting into the two-bed flats.
As is always the case, SUPERPROOFTM used no rodenticide baits and no traps during the work. This humane approach to pest control is valued by landlords and tenants alike, as it is cruelty-free, wildlife-friendly and eliminates health risks associated especially with baiting with rodenticides.
Adeola Oke, Head of Asset Management at Arhag, said: “The solution SUPERPROOFTM put in place has been impressive. Since they completed all their work we haven’t had another complaint about mice.
“Given the scale of the problem we faced at Silvester House, this is unprecedented. The SUPERPROOFTM mouse proofing system has been shown to be the most effective method for controlling mice in social housing like this.
“This is an animal-friendly and socially-acceptable way to solve mice problems, which good for us, and is welcomed by tenants. SUPERPROOFTM shows there is no reason to be brutal to wildlife when dealing with mice in property.”
Health concerns
Silvester House tenant Temitope Adebayo said she was pleased the mouse infestation problem had been solved, adding: “We have a small boy and we were concerned about health problems the mice might cause.
“The SUPERPROOF technicians were very thorough and polite. They looked all over the flat and blocked ways mice could get in. It’s a big relief not to have to worry about mice in our home anymore.”

After carrying out a thorough survey, SUPERPROOFTM gave Arhag the same flat-rate price to mouse proof each flat in the block.
The main route of mouse infestation was found to be the vertical enclosed waste water pipe that runs up through the building, connecting all flats. Once in the properties, mice were able to disperse via the boxed central heating network.
Understanding mice
A SUPERPROOF director said: “Once the route into the property was established, we could very effectively block it off, then mouse proof each flat individually to provide long-term protection from further mice ingress.
“The success of this project depended on our understanding of mice behaviour, which underpinned our use of the right materials and techniques to mouse proof each and every room in the block. It’s this precision and expertise that makes SUPERPROOFTM effective.”
The SUPERPROOFTM mouse infestation team blocked hundreds of potential points of entry during the work – using nearly half a tonne of specialist cement, 45 litres of mastic, 25 metres of mouse exclusion material, and nearly 300 metres of beading.
SUPERPROOF’s Director said: “We were very pleased to be able to support Arhag in this way. This project demonstrates SUPERPROOFTM combines the most effective system for mouse control with an enlightened approach that forward-thinking landlords, like Arhag, and their tenants appreciate.
“Even in the most challenging of circumstances, SUPERPROOFTM delivers when tackling mouse infestations, or preventing them from happening in the first place.
“We take a scientific and forensic approach to understanding animal behaviour then apply the most logical solutions to control pests.
“It’s an approach that works just as well with other animals, like rats, birds and squirrels, as with mice. And in each case, ‘Superproofing’ uses no poisons or traps, so is humane and wildlife-friendly.”
